Welcome Young Wizards and Witches!
Welcome to Comparative Wizardry. My name is Prof. Miette Bynny and my class assistant is Faye Roderick and we would both like to welcome you to the class. My goal is to show the basic knowledge of what a young wizard or witch would need to know/learn to become a full-fledged powerful wizard/witch by comparing traditional techniques mentioned in The Calendar of the Secrets of Merlin Wizardology and modern methods by using examples from literature, TV, and film. From divination to familiars, to magical animals to spells, and from a wizards workshop to the tools they use in every day life. This class will help you compare the different ways a witch or wizard practices magic but also the similarities. Because remember, there is no right or wrong way when it comes to magic, just different styles and beliefs when it comes to practicing magic.
Hopefully this will give you more insight into how a Wizard's life was(is) like through all the works of literature you may have read or watched. I will be referencing some characters from the HP world and other works/shows/movies. and from The Calendar of the Secrets of Merlin Wizardology. However, my goal here is not to say this is the absolute way the magical world is or should be, for we know there is no absolute when it comes to magic, but to show the common thread all the stories/shows/movies possess. (We will use examples like Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Faustus, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, The Craft and other works)
Overview of the Class
This is a full term class. You can get 2 quills for this class; 1 per term. You need to have at least 300 points to pass this course (150 points per term). Now it doesn't sound a lot but you need to do the midterm and final to pass this course. In order to do the Midterm- you must complete 2 of the 3 HW assignments before the Midterm. The same process is the same in order to get a quill for the 2nd term.
Here is the break down in order to get a quill: if you do the minimum of 2 HWs and then you do the midterm/final that is a total of 90 points. OH NO! That's 60 points short! That's where Extra Credit and the Half term Projects come in. I don't care which you do, but you must make up those 60 points in either the doing those or just doing all the HW + either one more Extra credit or the half term project :)
All Homework will be Multiple choice or T/F. The Extra Credit and half term projects however, will be essays. or puzzles :) Come on, I have to make you use your noggin a little bit! The homework assignments and any extra credit will be posted in the Homework & Extra Credit Tabs!
I understand RL can get crazy at times so if you have a problem getting an assignment to me on time, you must email or PM me in the main HOL forum. My Email is comwizardry@gmail.com . You can also PM my assistant Faye Roderick also if you have a question. If you travel onto mIRC you can usually find us there so can just send a P2P. Understand Late HW assignments will be deducted 10 points from the max total (30). So the max point total you can receive is 20 points.
