September Extra Credit
Write a 200-300 word essay comparing or contrasting in more detail how one of the examples used in lesson one along with the Tragic story of Faustus did or did not follow the basic rules of Merlin Wizardry. There was some confusion on what I want from this extra credit. What I am looking for is for you to Take the basic rules of magic, as was pointed out into lesson, and tell me if in Faustus and another example in the lesson (HP, Charmed, The Craft, etc..) followed those rules. Just go into more detail. I gave an overview of Charmed and BTVS, and HP. Feel free to Use Wikipedia or any other source on the internet for this Extra credit. Extra Credit is due Sept. 30th at Midnight.

October Extra Credit-- Due Oct. 31st Midnight
For October there will be 2 parts to the Extra Credit. There will be a word search and a small essay.
For the Crossword (worth 10points)
Copy and paste the crossword into Paint or whatever graphic program you have, even if you right click and save and up load to photobucket I know they have an editing section there, an find all the words. take the line tool or whatever drawer to draw a line through all the words you find. The essay (worth 20 points) Using the 6 main objects found in a wizard's home; skull, library, fireplace, wardrobe, crystal ball, ingredients; go into more detail how these are found in other books/movie/tvshows we are discussing in this class. If you would like to use another example please name the other example. You can just use 1 example for this Extra Credit.

November Extra Credit-- Due Nov. 30th Midnight
1. What type / category would these spells below (from Harry Potter books) fall into in your opinion, and why?(10 points total, 2 points per spell. )
- Sectumsempra - Obliviate - Expecto Patronum
- Impedimenta - Episkey
2. What spell in Harry Potter's world that you think is being overused, and what do you think would happen if the spell lost its potency, would it affect the wizarding world greatly? Would the wizards be able to find another spell to replace it? Explain in minimum one DECENT paragraph -meaning consisting of 4 or more sentences.(10 points)
3. Give me two spells of your own creation along with details such as: incantation, the type of the spell, and a short description of the spell usage. (10 points)

December Extra Credit - Due January 16th Midnight - 30points
For the last Extra Credit for this term, I would like you to write a minimum 250 word essay on :
Harry Potter and whether you think the Harry Potter series is a traditional form of wizardry or more modern or a combination of both. There is no right or wrong answer but I would like to see you back up your thoughts in this essay. Base your Essay just on the first three lessons. This extra Credit will come up again during the Second half of this term when we see more information in the lessons.
February Extra Credit - Due February 28th Midnight - 30 points
Create a short story regarding your first meeting with your familiar. Be as descriptive as you can, tell us its name, what magical ability does it have, and why / how did you choose it to be your familiar. No fewer than 200 words, please.
March Extra Credit - Due March 31st Midnight - 30 points
Create a short story on your first experience encountering a beast. What were you doing? Were you on a search? Was it by accident? What kind of beast was it? Give a description of the beast if its a beast no one has heard of or seen in ages. Use your imagination and have fun. It's an easy 30 points! No fewer that 200 words, please.
April Extra Credit - Due April 30th Midnight - 30 points
What other magical items have there been throughout literature/movies/TV shows? What was there purpose, who possessed them? Also, list any magical item you may have or your family may have and tell me about it. Do you use it for mischief? Do you use it to help you do chores? No fewer than 200 words please!
