First Term Project - DIVINATION - Due JAN. 16th MIDNIGHT

According to Merlin Wizardology, being abl;e to know the future relies on the intuition of the wizard or witch who performs them.  It takes a great deal of dialy study to master anyone method and it is a sad truth that most young witches/wizards practice for many years without getting results that are even remotely accurate.  If the studen has no success with the methods that are describe  here by the Merlin Wizardology, they may attemp other methods such as I Ching or Yarrow Stick Oracle.

Definition of Divination - Divination is the art or practise of foretelling the future using different methods that the divinor may decide. The art of Divination has been practised by all countries, cultures and religeons around the world for thousands of years.

It was studies over two thousand years ago in China by the study of cracked eggs for Divination. Some of the most popular forms of divination incluse tarot cards, runes, astrology and dowsing. But in the past there were times in history when divination was considered a crime and in fact still is in many countries today.  Definition found here

Palmistry

Palmistry, also known as Cheiromancy,  They are the blueprint of your experience in this reality. The palms of the hand are further used for healing by many healers and can experience energy if you focus. The left acts to receive energy while the right hand sends it out. Palmistry isn't fortune telling per-say but it is a blueprint of the person and their traits.

According to the website below:

Palmistry- the process

Palmistry is best seen as a dynamic process. The lines of the hand are not carved in stone. Since the lines, mounts and signs of the hand, the palm and the fingers reflect our thinking and behaviour patterns the study of the above gives a definite reading of the person . The lines and markings physically change as our thinking changes.

Which hand should be read?

It is important to look at both hands during a reading. Depending on which hand is active (usually seen as the hand you write with),in combination with the inactive hand, shows where you have been (passive),and where you are likely headed (active) in this life.

Palmistry - Branches

Cheiromancy:
This is the study of the lines within the palm. The lines in the palms are formed during the fetal development and best carry the personality traits and characters of the individual. This was palmistry in olden ages. Later the various marks and mounts on the palm also came into study and focus.

Chirognomy: The study of the general shape of the hand , finger shapes, finger nails and their texture is termed as Chirognomy. This study is helping in finding out the true personality of the individual under study.

Dermatoglyphics: The study of the ridges found in the finger tips is called Dermatoglyphics. This is very useful in criminal/forensic sciences and is nowadays used as a personal identification tool.

Dowsing

With a pendulum or a split hazel stick, one can practice dowsing. This is a method used for finding treasure or underground water. The person would hold the stick lightly (see picture) and they would walk until they feel the twig or pendulum twitch.  The traditional tool of the dowser is a forked rod made of wood. Certain wood such as Hazel, Willow, Ash and Rowan are the best. Many dowsers prefer to work with a pendulum on a string. The dowser attunes themself to what is being sought usually through visualization. The dowser holds the forked end of the rod making sure palms are turned upwards. The dowser walks until the rod trembles and dips down marking the spot. In the case of dowsing with a pendulum the dowser hangs the pendulum over a map.  (Also known as map scrying)

Dowsing has been used for over 7000 years. There are records that the Ancient Egyptians and Chinese used this method and even in the Middle Ages by the Europeans to find water. So as you can see dowsing wasn't purely used by magical people. It was used in practical situations like finding  archeological and geological work, and by utility companies in locating damaged pipes and cables.

Specula

A Specula is the plural for speculum. A speculum is a device used in seeing the future. Some specula are a crystal ball, bowl of water, polished stone or a mirror. The method for fortune telling is relatively the same for each. In order to try and get answers for the future, one must clear their mind of all outside interference and think of only the question and hope to see the answer in any of the specula you are using. Sometimes the answers do not come...but that is why witches and wizards that practice divination keep practicing this unpredictable art form of magic.

**As you can see There are forms of Divination like Dowsing and a branch of Palmistry that are used in the modern day non-magic world.

Beware of False Prophecies

As we have seen in the literature we have read, like Harry Potter, or shows like Charmed and movies like Lord of the Rings. We have seen the telling of the future can be either controlled by someone that wants to do malice against the person seeking the future or they can't  read the future and they jsut want  to give an answer to that seeking one if just to satisfy their yearning.

Some clairvoyants give answers so vague about the future that they are bound to be correct on way or another, just to keep the customer coming back to them and paying for their services. For example, an athlete comes to a fortune teller to ask if they will win in a game, the fortune teller will respond with "There will be a victory" but we do not know which side will be victorious, just that there will be a victory. So beware of seeking an answer to the future, some things should be left unknown.
