Wizard's Workshop

Wizard’s of the olden days had work areas like this and apprentices that wanted to learn from them (they had no wizarding school back then. Now don’t you feel lucky.) These wizards in training were the “maids/house elfs” in the wizard’s workshop. During those times they were being punished for their foolishness, chastised for laziness, laundering robes, stirring cauldrons, preparing potions, researching spells, taking care of familiars, and polishing wands. In order to learn wizardology now, you must follow this process as closely as you are able. It is possible, of course, that you do not have your own workshop, but if you have even a tiny corner of a room to call your own, be sure to furnish it according to the description here. The workshop of a wizard is the place where a wizard weaves most of his/her magic.  It should be guarded at all times from intruders. Of course if you are still in Wizardry School, your workshop IS your school.

A Wizard's Home
According to some past works in literature and basic rules of magic according to Merlin Wizardology, one should not choose a home that is too near the homes of other wizards. This may confuse the local spirits, who will be unable to decide which master they should serve, and will therefore leave the way open for them to make a deliberate mess up of your magic. A residence such as a hermit's cell by a fountain, a ruined tower near a standing stone, an enchanted cave in a haunted grotto, or some other place linked with ancient myth or legend will be ideal. However, modern day wizards/witches tend to want to live in the hustle and bustle of urban life because some tend to care more about the success of oneself than the success of the advancement of the unity of nature and humankind.

Also, if you watched the Harry Potter Movies or seen the show Charmed, you can see that in the wizard/witch home they do contain certain tools that help them advance their skills and their knowledge.  Not all homes or dwellings have to look exactly like the picture. We usually see rooms like those in movies that are based in the old days.  But in modern times, witches/wizards live in more updated dwellings. Change with the times, its the only way to progress. Below are some of the items some may find or remember seeing in the movies/show.

Library
All wizards worth their magical salt have a full library of ancient tomes on myriad magical and mythical subjects, comprising everything from dragon lore to the arcane wisdom of ancient Egypt. From the HP Movies to shows like Charmed and Buffy, a wizard knows the only way to learn magic and create new magic is by reading the magics from past wizards. Albeit  from a bloodline history, like  the Book of Shadows in Charmed with the Halliwell sisters or the Hogwarts students cramming in the library to study.

Wardrobe
Different colored robes are used in the performance of different kinds of spells and ought to be readily to hand. Smaller versions will be useful if you feel able to bear having an apprentice of your own.  We don't really see too many robes in modern shows like Charmed or Buffy. The only time we say them in any robes was in the later seasons of Charmed when Paige decided to go teach at wizarding school, just like the students at Hogwarts. Robes in wizarding school are pretty much equal to modern day private school type uniforms. If you take a look below you can see that the robes of yesteryear are more old-fashioned. Today the robes are modernized and do not entail as much cloth.

Ingredients
Without a supply of the proper ingredients, the would be wizard will find himself unable to perform even simple spells. Keep quantities of eye of newt, toe of frog, and freshly ground unicorn horn at the ready. Pretty much the common thread that hasn't changed much throughout history. Every witch/wizard needs ingredients to create their potions. The names may have gotten more craetive but all magical people need their pantry full of goodies.

Fireplace
A fireplace or inglenook equipped with a cauldron is a necessity for the wizard who takes his ability to create potions seriously. It is also a good idea to keep a pot of  porridge on the go, in case of visitors. Not only is a fireplace used for the basics of creating potions but also in a form of transportation and helping to expose magic.

We see this in Lord of the Rings (Gandalf exposing the dark elvish language) and also in Harry Potter. (Floo Network) However, one does not need a fireplace for transportation, flame in itself can be used to transport a witch or wizard. Can you think of the Movie/Book that I am? This is important it can play a role in your Extra Credit.

Skull
While not strictly necessary, a polished skull may serve to impress patrons and act as a useful paperweight. The older and more mysterious looking, the better. You can get it to talk to you if you feel lonely. We see an example of this in the Harry Potter series at the Borgin & Burkes shop. This shop pretty much deals in the Dark Arts and is found off of Diagon Alley in Knockturn Alley.

Crystal Ball
A crystal ball, magical mirror, or other scrying device will prove invaluable in ascertaining what the future may hold and can also be useful in communicating with other wizards over large distances. An example of this is in The Lord of the Rings, the palantir or seeing stone, was a way wizards used to communicate and through manipulation would be able to see around Middle Earth.

Wizard's Wardrobe Wizard's are not creatures of fashion, but dress according to the customs and usages of their own  countries

There are three main types of Wizard wardrobe garb.

1. Western Wizard - wear simple tunics and woolen cloaks. Some have a curious weakness for conical hats. (an example of this is Gandalf from the books/movies Lord of the Rings)
2.Eastern Wizard (Lapp Shaman)- dress in traditional costumes of reindeer hide, which are often trimmed with white fur
3.Shaman (Arabian Sage)- use their proximity to the Silk Road to full advantage, dressing in a range of showy fabrics.

Some Common Wizard Tools

A Fairy Flag
-an enchanted fabric given to a wizard from the fairy folk. It has the power to bestow three wishes on the holder. The owner of the flag must be very careful choosing the wishes because the the power of the flag does not diminish after each use. An example of a famous Fairy flag is that of the Macleod Clan of the Dunvegan

An Athame-or wizard's knife. Used in many things for witchcraft or spells and also in the making of Wands. We see this tool used a lot in the show Charmed. They use this tool to take flesh from demons they are trying to banish or they need the athame to kill the demon/warlock.

Merlin wizardry says into order to make a wand you must know what type of magic you want to perform. When you know what type of spell you want you then have to carve the wand out of the wood using the athame because along with saying the proper spell to give power to the wand, the athame also gives it power because the athame itself is a powerful tool used in many areas of witchcraft. However, In Harry Potter we see young students go to wand makers such as Ollivanders' Wand Shop. However, the wand chooses its master. Although, there has been a couple of cases where the wands were taken by force. Can you think of any cases this has happened?

Different woods are better for certain spells. A wizard may want to have more than 1 one, because a wizard does more than 1 spell.

TYPES OF WOOD:

Oak-creativity, Yew-Healing, Hazel- Divination, Olive-reconciliation, Rose - matters of the heart.
